Questions!
Could you...Good afternoon, Jacqueline,

Questions!

Could you talk about getting Multiple Point of View and Story Structure together?

As I've whined about before, structuring a story does not come naturally to me. I have to work very hard at it. Thanks to you, the Mythic Structure, and Blake Snyder, I've finally made enough progress to achieve publication.

Now, I'm taking the terrifying toddler-steps to Multiple Point of View. I think I hit a Learning Curve too.

SWEET BYTES is the third story in the Ophelia Dawson Chronicles. The first and second stories were told entirely in the Heroine's Point of View, Third Person Limited. At the end of Sugar Rush, though, the Hero and Heroine were parted by external circumstances. So, I have Sweet Bytes told *mostly* from the Heroine's Point of View. Including the Hero's POV became obviously necessary though. Now, I'm at the end of the second draft and it seems to me (here's the Learning Curve) that in this case the Hero needs his own Blake Snyder Beat Sheet, in miniture, but still there. He has his own story going on, his own Theme (similar to Heroine's), he meets his own 'goddess', and has his own All Is Lost moment. (I didn't do this on purpose, by the way) Now, in Act Three, the Hero and Heroine converge and they're together, working in tandem again, but in much greater depth than ever in Sugar Rush. They've matured a lot.

So, is this the way it was supposed to go and I stumbled on it? Did you teach me this and it only now just sunk in?

Now, that I see it all, I'm thinking, hmmm, I need to go back and do something with this *on purpose.*

Anyway, there's still two more books to go in the series, so if you have the chance I'd love advice on writing a series too.Kimber Lihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03982239712083114488noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2336113277139874133.post-66999162984473801492011-03-26T00:52:09.337-07:002011-03-26T00:52:09.337-07:00As you are aware of the latest progress of interne...As you are aware of the latest progress of internet specially the introduction of web 2.0 websites is an online revolution. Weren't you going to publish a book on craft at some stage?
This part you wrote in a blog about Word Building in SF brilliantly sums up what goes into making a successful writer:
Your recognition of what you have in common with others who are less articulate than you are is your stock in trade, the Art you can monetize commercially.
When I have my professional editing hat on, that's exactly what I try to do. Help the author articulate what they're trying to say. It's often in their head and you have to get them to explain themselves so you can tease out the gold from the dross.
I love that aspect of my work.
There's still a lot of gold in what you've said that I'm not applying yet. I need to highlight these into easily digestible chunks, so I can refer back to it often.
take care and thanks again
AlisonA.B.Gaylehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02631009081489655875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2336113277139874133.post-59745828013917396042010-07-02T14:16:16.209-07:002010-07-02T14:16:16.209-07:00Hi again

As for launching...Hi again
Is that what you wanted?
As for launching a career. LOL. Early days!
Another trick you taught me was the 750 word scene trick.
In my short story "Reversal" I consciously tried to make each scene that long.
In the end I split some smaller and a few went longer, but it did suit the snappy tone of the short story and the narrator's voice.
Like all "rules" you don't follow it over a cliff, but it's something to definitely take into consideration.A.B.Gaylehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02631009081489655875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2336113277139874133.post-36421857141060916312010-07-02T14:08:43.073-07:002010-07-02T14:08:43.073-07:00Hi Jacqueline

You know when...Hi Jacqueline
A paragraph on theme?!
You know when you walk out of a movie and you go "Hey, yeah, interesting characters, the action really flowed, but what was the the point of making the movie in the first place." What's missing is the "Theme" - what the story is all about. Over the years, Jacqueline Lichtenberg has covered this topic extensively in her blogs at Editing Circle and Alien Romances. Her advice has helped me understand and make sure that everything I write and edit follows this dictum. It doesn't have to be an "In your face" moral, but it sure helps when you've hit a brick wall and are not sure where to take the story next, or when you've reached the end and feel something's missing.A.B.Gaylehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02631009081489655875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2336113277139874133.post-20062431578743936642010-07-02T09:25:08.508-07:002010-07-02T09:25:08.508-07:00Alison (that is),

So much to learn so little time. Sigh.
I see Kimber An is still with you. Hi. Then, I work through the rest of the story. And then I go back and start with the Opening Image and work through to the Catalyst. I didn't plan this. I just noticed I've been doing it. And it does seem to make the story creation process more efficient.

Hmm, I just knew there was a question in there somewhere, but it came out as an observation instead. Maybe my question is

"What's with that?"

If that makes sense.

'Cause I like to figure out why I do things, so if they're good things I can build on them, I suppose.Kimber Lihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03982239712083114488noreply@blogger.com
